This project was commissioned by the graphic design exhibition “Mois du Graphisme d’Échirolles” which took place from November 19th 2016 to January 29th 2017. Japan was this year’s guest of honour. We were asked to depict this country by experimenting with a variety of graphic styles. Our visual research covered many cultural aspects such as architecture, cooking, cinema, manga, literature, haikus, fashion, ceramics, Tea, sumo wrestling, and so on.
I was inspired by the contrast between nature and the city found in Japan. I illustrated this contrast with an overprinting technique. Nature is represented by the pastel colours, while the city is all saturated and vibrant colours. A neon typography recalls the accumulation of such panels in Tokyo’
